What is rAge?
The 12th annual rAge expo will be happening at the Coca-Cola dome, Northgate in Johannesburg from Friday 10 October to Sunday 12 October 2014.
rAge is Africa’s premier consumer gaming and technology exhibition, held annually at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg. Over the course of a single crazy weekend, tens of thousands of eager visitors gather within the Dome to soak up the latest and greatest in gadgets, video games and everything else that gets attendees’ hearts racing.
Award
In fitting commemoration of over a decade of awesome events, rAge 2013 was awarded a prestigious EXSA Award: Certificate of Excellence (Consumer Exhibition – 12,000m² and over). The annual awards – held by The Exhibition and Event Association of Southern Africa – mark the best of the best in Southern Africa, and rAge proudly walked away with the only ‘Certificate of Excellence’ on the night when the expo received the highest recognition in the consumer category.
NAG LAN
rAge will again feature the sleep-depriving three day NAG LAN @ rAge BYOC (Bring your own computer). This is a wired melting pot of adrenaline-filled gaming in the form of a three-day LAN. The NAG LAN @ rAge is the biggest gaming LAN in South Africa, with 2,000 gamers connected to the same network for a weekend of pure gaming.
Who makes rAge happen?
Besides a crack team of event organisers, public relations experts and a vast number of external service providers, rAge is powered and owned by the dedicated and experienced team who publish NAG magazine. NAG is South Africa’s leading gaming, computer and technology magazine, and has been published monthly since 1998.
Who attends rAge?
This annual three-day event has become more than a mere tradeshow or convention; it’s become a consumer gaming event that brings local gamers (and non-gamers) together regardless of age, race, gender or platform from all over the country. It’s not uncommon for busloads of gamers to make the trip from Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and many other places in South Africa. From families to casual and hardcore gamers, computer enthusiasts, the youth and technology conscious families, technophobes that need to learn a thing or two and the techno‑geeks to teach them; all will be at rAge 2014.
Why exhibit at rAge?
Since its inception in 2002, the really AWESOME gaming expo (rAge) has enjoyed organic growth both in the number of exhibitors and attendees over the years. rAge 2011 saw a record 26,594 expo visitors, growth of 29% from 2010, followed by an increase of 8% in 2012 to 28,930 visitors, and a 12% increase in 2013 to 32,626 visitors .
rAge is a gateway for tech companies, assorted retailers, video game distributors, aspiring game developers and anyone else looking to access a potentially untapped market to promote their brands and products, or to directly interact with their target audience and engage with them personally to encourage a meaningful, lasting customer relationship.
This annual event, that has never disappointed the tens of thousands of ardent gamers and exhibitors in all its previous years, has become synonymous with the hottest games, all the cutting-edge technology and gadgets as well as popular subculture favourites like the NAG LAN, cosplay and the Artist’s Alley.
Exhibitors have enjoyed annual attendance growth and will continue to capitalise on the enormous spending power of the technology and gaming consumer. Prospective exhibitors can secure their space at this not-to-be-missed event that dominates the South African gaming industry’s calendar.

rAge 2014 emergency procedures – alien invasion
At the rAge expo, your safety is our top priority and our team of highly trained safety officers have developed a set of incident-specific evacuation procedures. It is imperative that all attendees at the rAge expo familiarise themselves with each of the set-out procedures, as evacuation routines have now become a Government requirement for all public gatherings as stipulated in Section D-6.3 of the Protection of Public Gatherings Bill (B4 – 2012, 22 February).
The following set of evacuation procedures has been developed specifically for rAge 2014 so as to minimise human casualties in the event of an alien invasion. These procedures are listed below and you are encouraged to familiarise yourself with all of them:
-
In the event of a confirmed alien invasion, a Randy Quaid sound bite from the 1996 film Independence Daywill sound THREE times over the Coca-Cola Dome’s public address system; please see this file to familiarise yourself with this sound bite.
-
STEP 1: ascertain the nature of the alien threat; no two alien invasions are the same and it is of utmost importance to establish the reason behind the invasion.
-
STEP 2: once invasion type is evident, apply the relevant procedures as set out in Scenarios A-D below.
-
STEP 3: assuming you are of sound mind to do so, make sure to capture as much footage of the invasion as possible; utilise your cell phone’s built-in camera if necessary and then upload the footage to NAG’s YouTube channel. There is no such thing as bad publicity. All video contributors will receive a year’s NAG Magazine subscription assuming you survive the invasion.
-
STEP 4: make your way to the nearest emergency exits; exits are located on the east and west sides of the Coca-Cole Dome and are clearly marked with pictures of little white stick-men running in terror towards an open door. Be advised that the likelihood of the invading aliens using the North Gate parking lot as a landing zone for their mothership is pretty high. With this in mind, taking the emergency exit to the east of the Coca-Cola Dome is probably not a good idea.
-
STEP 5: run screaming to your vehicle and know that we really appreciate your support and look forward to welcoming you back next year at rAge 2015!
